Most of you should have heard by now about the Century Singers Spring Concert, taking place at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2009 (less than two weeks away). We are working diligently to get the Association of Former Century Singers (AFCS) revitalized and active, and we would love to have your input on what the organization should be doing!
With that in mind, Missy Holloway is organizing a pre-concert event for all Formers who can make it to College Station before the concert. Currently, we plan to meet in the rehearsal room in the MSC before the Spring Concert, between 5 pm and 7 pm on Friday, April 24, 2009, to talk about AFCS, set some goals, and collect ideas from anyone who shows up! If you can’t make it by 5:00, don’t worry – show up whenever you can. Right now, we want to generate some interest in the group and see how the members would like this group to develop.
Ideas we’ve been batting around include:
- Setting up and funding a small scholarship for current members
- Social functions
- Recruiting local high schools for new Century Singers
- Locating missing Formers in various cities
- Regional subgroups and representatives
- AFCS Board membership and recruiting
- Local community service opportunities
- Opportunities for singing together
If you would like to get in on the ground floor and help us by serving as a Board member, by coming up with ideas for get-togethers or service opportunities, or by setting up local AFCS “hometown clubs”, then this meeting is for you! If you can’t attend, but would like to help out or voice your opinion, please feel free to contact us through the Facebook site or through either Missy Holloway or James Nguyen (the liason between the Formers and the current choir members). Their contact information is shown below.
If you’re wondering why you’re hearing from me, it’s because I’ve been elected (appointed? sentenced?) to the office of President of the AFCS. I’m not the most organized person in the world, or maybe even in this room, but I think this organization has the chance to be something special, and I’m happy to serve until dethroned, overthrown, or otherwise kicked out of office!
I hope to see lots of you at the pre-Concert meeting and at the Concert itself, on Friday, April 24.
So until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
